Every once in a while, a rock n' roll band arrives with the nerve, ambition, and confidence to do something different. Montreal's TOP JOHNNY! are currently doing something that is both ambitious and wildly intriguing...

It is no secret that people in the music industry are infatuated with labels. They want to neatly classify different types of music, putting all of it in little organized folders somewhere on a musical shelf. TOP JOHNNY!, however, is a band that would drive all of these label-crazed people up the wall. They are quickly developing a reputation as one of Montreal's most interesting acts by offering something new and innovative to audiences who are accustomed to the sometimes formulaic brand of today's rock. They are an all-original, high-intensity party band whose sound is forged from a blend of searing rock guitar riffs, techno-style synthesizers, catchy vocal hooks, and pile-driving dance beats.

TOP JOHNNY! want to be defined by their live shows. Theirs is a live performance which epitomizes energy and unpredictability with TJ Star regularly going out into the crowd to play his wailing lead guitar solos to get up close and personal with his fans. He and the band are fully committed to connecting with their audience: "I am not in this business to show people what a clever boy I am, but to connect with our audience...hopefully with millions of people worldwide!"

TOP JOHNNY! share a common vision for what they are doing. They all believe in a strong code of business ethics, and the band actively supports ecological values. The band gives 10% of all their concert and CD sales to the Planet Alert! Foundation, a non-profit organization formed to fund globally recognized projects which have the best chance of achieving lasting solutions to our planet's ecological and humanitarian problems. Front man TJ Star's desire to positively impact people stems from his initial encounter with rock music. Upon hearing KISS for the first time, he realized that "the band gave me something to hope for, something to look forward to. It kept me out of trouble and in the end gave me a ton of self-confidence. I hope one day my music will also inspire a young person to pick up a guitar instead of a gun."

TOP JOHNNY! is the brainchild of triple-threat (composer, performer and co-producer) TJ Star (see Topp Tipp 07 and listen to his divine voice at the song with Glam Tam!) and his long time collaborator and co-producer Mr. Positive(+) (the best manager I've ever met![piruido]) and is produced by StarBrite Productions, Montreal, Canada.
